About This Course

Learn how to transfer your modeling, unwrapping, and baking skills into Maya from Blender.

It can be hard feeling completely lost when you already know the fundamentals and the software is the only thing getting in your way. You may be pulling your hair out, because your speed and process have been thrown out the door. You may be knowing what you want to create but getting nowhere trying to accomplish it.

Most tutorials for learning Maya are fundamentals videos that are long and drawn out, covering topics that you already understand. You're just looking for the information on how to transfer the skills you already have from working in Blender. You may be spending large amounts of time scanning through tons of beginner videos only to find the videos overlook the advanced techniques you use. Sometimes the techniques you use aren't even available in Maya. This becomes irritating and wastes your time.

This video series is designed to get you up to speed inside of Maya and have you wondering why it ever seemed so hard to transfer between software in the first place. All of the main tools and techniques that are used in everyday video game art development (modeling, unwrapping, and baking) will be explained and cross referenced to what you would use inside of Blender. So if you're in need of getting up to speed inside of Maya for a new job position or are a student looking to improve your resume to become more attractive to employers this video series is perfect for you.

  • Overview of fundamental UI differences

  • Location of most used tools and techniques for modeling

  • Explaining high poly modeling workflow

As a 10 year blender user i've found it extremely difficult to pick up maya. This is helping bridge the gap

Just what I needed. All the practical information on how to use Maya specifically without getting bogged down with more general 3D modeling concepts.

The course is a good overview of Maya fundamentals, though the instructor doesn't relate the material back to Blender enough. He doesn't mention blender except in the intro and conclusion, or discuss specifics on how Blender workflow and techniques can be directly translated into Maya, especially with UV editing. I did like the straightforward tips & tricks demo style in Maya, though.

I hope this review can be seen because I'll try to make it as objective, constructive and thought-out as possible.

The course is a decent intro to Maya's UI. It covers most of the most basic features necessary to begin navigating, modeling, unwrapping, and shading. The instructor is clear-spoken and takes his time to annotate each of his actions.

However, this course is not at all presented as it is described. At no point (other than the intro and outro snipets) is Blender mentioned whatsoever. There are no analogies or comparisons drawn between features in Blender and Maya. It is an intro course to Maya's UI for someone with a baseline understanding of 3D software in general, with no specific catering to Blender users hoping to transfer their skills.

In my opinion the course content is far too basic. It is advertised as a course for those with intermediate or advanced skills in Blender, but just barely touches on each subject listed. There are many areas that I think should be covered by a paid course like this (common modeling techniques, rendering, workflow and useful hotkeys, etc.) Even a short chapter at the end of the course that quickly lists the unmentioned visible UI buttons and their purpose would be great.

The course was well put together and very clear, but it left me with a lot of questions as an intermediate-advanced blender user. I didn't find it more useful than in intro to Maya's UI available free on Youtube.

Great job explaining things and you covered a lot of important ground, but since this is Blender to Maya I wish you did more explaining of "for blender feature X, this is how you do it in maya". Such as inset faces, local/global object views, proportional editing, and how move+sew is the maya version of UV seams in blender (unless you can do that in maya too?)
