About This Course

Seven steps for effective leadership through volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous times

If you want to learn how to continue to lead effectively during organisational change, then this is the course for you. This course will help leaders faced with conditions of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) to be effective leaders.  In this course, you will learn seven steps to ensure you are an effective leader in these increasingly frequent VUCA situations. The course involves watching video drama and lectures and also includes:

  • Learner notes and exercises for each section to enhance and consolidate learning

  • A short quiz at the end to check learning

  • Downloadable resources and web link

  • Video populated with written captions to emphasise key learning points.

By studying this course, you will learn:

  1. About the changing demands of leadership in a 21st century VUCA world

  2. Why the established models of ‘managing change’ are no longer effective

  3. About the style of leadership needed to lead through change and uncertainty

  4. How to overcome the challenges of resistance to change and getting buy-in

  5. How to create and maintain a strong leadership position when the future is uncertain

  6. The importance of maintaining a strong people focus during change, and how to do that

  7. How to maintain engagement and motivation during complex adaptive change

  8. How to use sense-making processes to maintain flexibility in fast-changing situations

  9. How to engage the whole organisation or team in the change challenge

  10. Specific leadership techniques to deal with ever-changing situations

  11. How to maintain leadership authenticity and integrity in volatile situations

  12. Seven key principles to guide leadership behaviour as situations unfold.

Learning how to lead effectively through change can benefit you professionally, as doing this well is one of the biggest challenges leaders face. It is estimated that 70% of change efforts in organisations fail. Don't let yours be one of them.

Leadership is a complex, judgemental, psychological task. I am a chartered organisational psychologist with over 25 years' experience working with organisations and leaders going through change. I know the theory and have witnessed the practice. I have selected the best of both to speed your learning journey in this complex area. By the end of this course, you will be better equipped to lead through change with confidence and skill.

  • Offer strong leadership during challenging situations of organisational change

  • Create and maintain strong relationships with the people affected by the change

  • Use the intelligence and energy of the whole unit or organisation to help with the change

This was a little brief, I expected some more in depth examples or insights from people who've gone through large change.

It was a good reminder in many ways, a quick course to help set up a leadership team for an upcoming work environment change. I'd also consider this a good course for a newly hired leader for their onboarding. Establishing a culture of continuous improvement and recognizing as a leader you do not need to have all the answers, being present and engaging your team and employees is critical to the DNA of the organization.
