How To Play Blues:Open Guitar Tunings -Â Fingerpicking Blues Guitar Lessons
Playing guitar in open D tuning opens interesting possibilities. For example, it isn't necessary to hold down the bass E string when playing a D chord - a deeper bass gives the guitar a low down, bluesy feel but also lends itself to ragtime picking. The acoustic guitar lessons in this course explains how to tune down to open D tuning and open G tuning , and presents several videos teaching a variety of songs in these open guitar tunings.
Â
Open G guitar tuning is of particular interest and we take a look how Robert Johnson, King of Delta Blues Guitar used it to create songs such as Walkin' Blues and Crossroads.

I feel like I'm learning more of the Open D and Open G Blues & gaining appreciation of the style with Thanks to Jim Bruce's instruction methods & Clips. Practice and repetition is the only way to gain speed; so after a couple years of practice I may sound passable. During the Bonus Song "Crossroads", I finally found the best way to use the glass slide on metal strings is to use a light touch. The lighter touch, without using the bar to force the strings all the way to the fretboard, gave a more sought after tone and made playing easier.
Like to try this course with a nylon string guitar to see if it will improve my playing. For this course I've been using a Gretsch A/E G5022CWFE played thru a Danelectro Billionaire Tremolo and a Danelectro Billionaire POD Overdrive into a Flashback X4 Echo/Delay into a Roland Street Cube EX Amp with Reverb turned up. May not be the original sound, but I like the resulting sound. I'm thankful for instructors who can bring us these old Blues Songs and also for having today's technology to keep the music alive. When I first started taking udemy.com guitar courses I never thought I'd actually progress this far in a couple years.
