How To Play Blues:Open Guitar Tunings - Fingerpicking Blues Guitar Lessons

Playing guitar in open D tuning opens interesting possibilities. For example, it isn't necessary to hold down the bass E string when playing a D chord - a deeper bass gives the guitar a low down, bluesy feel but also lends itself to ragtime picking.  The acoustic guitar lessons in this course explains how to tune down to open D tuning and open G tuning , and presents several videos teaching a variety of songs in these open guitar tunings.

Open G guitar tuning is of particular interest and we take a look how Robert Johnson, King of Delta Blues Guitar used it to create songs such as Walkin' Blues and Crossroads.

I feel like I'm learning more of the Open D and Open G Blues & gaining appreciation of the style with Thanks to Jim Bruce's instruction methods & Clips. Practice and repetition is the only way to gain speed; so after a couple years of practice I may sound passable. During the Bonus Song "Crossroads", I finally found the best way to use the glass slide on metal strings is to use a light touch. The lighter touch, without using the bar to force the strings all the way to the fretboard, gave a more sought after tone and made playing easier.
Like to try this course with a nylon string guitar to see if it will improve my playing. For this course I've been using a Gretsch A/E G5022CWFE played thru a Danelectro Billionaire Tremolo and a Danelectro Billionaire POD Overdrive into a Flashback X4 Echo/Delay into a Roland Street Cube EX Amp with Reverb turned up. May not be the original sound, but I like the resulting sound. I'm thankful for instructors who can bring us these old Blues Songs and also for having today's technology to keep the music alive. When I first started taking udemy.com guitar courses I never thought I'd actually progress this far in a couple years.

I was hoping for more instruction on technique for the right hand, and more chord isolation for the left hand.
Maybe too complicated for my level of playing, but great for learning particular songs for someone more advanced.

This is a very nice course in bottleneck playing on the acoustic guitar. Jim takes you through the tuning, the positioning of the slide, and then through the tablature of some interesting songs. Fun stuff to play!

Very detailed and easy to follow. Three different angles for most every lick demonstrated.
The best way I've found to learn the guitar styles of the old blues masters.

Jim's lessons are consistently high quality and accessible to anyone with a little patience. He offers an impressively large number of the Delta blues songs that are the foundation of so much modern rock and blues. I also enjoy his anecdotes about the original players - he is really keeping this music alive.
