Blues Guitar Lessons. Blues guitar has a dark side - Robert Johnson and Scrapper Blackwell acoustic blues guitar lessons

Almost by definition, acoustic blues guitar has a dark side - it was born from suffering, after all. This course presents 6 songs by blues legends Robert Johnson and Scrapper Blackwell, two giants of acoustic blues guitar. You will learn all songs in great detail.

Each song is covered in one video lasting between 15 and 25 minutes, which also includes on-screen guitar tablature and a PDF file for downloading for later study. Everything needed to learn and play the song is included.

Scrapper Blackwell songs - Blues Day Blues, Down and Out, Kokomo Blues and Blues Before Sunrise.

Robert Johnson - Me and the Devil, and Love In Vain.

The level is not super complex, but you should have some experience in finger picking guitar techniques and changing basic chords - you will also be learning (probably) some new blues chord structures.

Jim's delta blues, finger-style, how-to videos are AMAZING. I don't know of any other place to learn this type of stuff. Thank you Jim for putting these together! These delta blues masters were SO far ahead of their time! Wow!!!

Was an excellent learning tool for me. Difficult at first, because it's a genre of music I've never really explored and the fingering seemed too complicated. Following Instructor Jim Bruce, clip by clip, for 2-3 weeks unlocked a bunch of the early Blues mysteries for me. I started the course using a 1995 Regal Resonator, switched to a 2015 Gretsch G5022CWFE A/E, then for comfort to an 1998 Electric Gretsch G6120 using fingers and thumb only. Finally on the Scrapper Blackwell last two pieces I wised up and used two metal fingerpicks and a plastic thumbpick playing a 2014 G&L Comanche. I know playing Electric doesn't present the original recordings the way they first came out, but it's much more comfortable on my fingers. Looking forward to other courses by Jim Bruce.

It pains me how disappointed I am with this course. I was so looking forward to it and and I was frustrated the entire time. His style of teaching, the way the lessons were demonstrated (or lack thereof), the pacing, the angles, everything was just so non-conducing to learning. He played the whole song first and then little bits for a second and moved on. It was painful how bad this was.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of delta blues classes on Udemy, so i chose what was available. Luckily i found a good guy on Youtube.

Sorry to be negative, but i don't want others to make the same mistakes. It really seems as if not a lot of effort was put in by the instructor so the review is just encourage a little more from other instructors on Udemy. Thanks for listening.

I got this as a promo, so can't get my money back. I just wish I had my time back.

I've taken a several blues courses and this one it tops. Jim Bruce plays the pieces, breaks them down, and provides tabs. One of the best features that I don't find on a lot of courses is the fact that he sings (really well too) AND plays the guitar. This adds greatly to learning a song. Loved this course; thus, the five well-deserved stars. Thank you Mr. Bruce!
