About This Course

(Creature Concept art and illustration)

Learn my techniques for creating dragons digitally in photoshop by using real photos of an alligator. I begin by taking you though my process and inspiration on how (and why) I draw my dragons the way I do. (Inspirations from the past combined with modern studies of anatomy in dinosaurs and real animals.) The actual painting itself is a new frontier for me, as I challenge myself to go another level beyond the typical way that I have always illustrated dragons up until now. Not only do I explore intricate detail for both the creature and this surroundings, I also stumble a bit with a few things (such as the background) and show you how I recover from that.

  • Students will understand the need for basic form underneath creature design, as well as learning how to do extremely detailed textures, as well as learn how it is affected by light and shadows.

I enjoyed this course and thought the instructor, Chris, did a nice job explaining as he went along.

Alright, this course is not what i expected to be, the premise look decent to learn from but in reality oh no why?

In first 2 videos he rushes through some dinosaur examples that he comes up with. Does not even try to teach dinosaur basics he just scribbles through and moves onto different and continues to rush through it as well. Okay, now about actual dragon - again no basics involved just scribbles what in his mind looks and makes sense he just scribbling it out no joint examples no nothing only scribbles. Then videos themselves most of it if not all are (feel sped up) / timelapsed it does not feel to me that he is talking while drawing then suddenly all the edits fade in - fade out and jump cuts. Excuse me but this course is HOW TO not WATCH ME PAINT. I couldn't bother wasting my time watch it all through end it is just disappointing. Also instructor is missing for more than 2 years so yeah. No Bueno.

Brilliant and Outstanding course, not just for the hyper-realism painting of the dragon but also because the instructor is doing a lot of the painting in real-time, he is doing time-lapsed when necessary to make the student see the minor modifications and most of the time he is trying to use different method to make the students able to follow along where he is placing his brush strokes. I wish he makes more courses, it's been a while since he last uploaded a course. I wish the very best in you life journey and best of luck, thank you.

Well explained, I like that he touched upon what he was doing at a technical level with photoshop layers when he was moving parts by duplicating layers for liquifying and for moving a selected portion. If possible try to point out these technical aspects a little more as you are going through the artistic process. Thank you!
