About This Course

Portrait of a Child

In this course, I show you my process for practicing being a better artist by creating a photo real portrait from scratch-- using a photo reference. This, in my opinion, is a VERY helpful exercise for all artists who want to be able to memorize depth and realism techniques for their paintings that they create from the mind. Think of it in terms of a musician practicing chords or scales before writing an actual song. Or even musicians who cover other bands songs before they create their own. I pick up a lot of detail and anatomy by simply studying real photos and then applying those similar parameters to original concepts from my mind.

  • This exercise conditions the artist to become better at many facets of painting. It is a lot like a musician practicing chords and scales to become a better performer.

I am really happy that I bought this course. He took me many steps further. I have learned to look very closely, to pay attention to every little detail and also techniques on how to paint what I see. I'm really excited, thank you.

Low production value: minimum effort editing, horrible sound (mono track, really low volume), background noise.
Low information for the lengthy content: it shows how to 1:1 recreate a photo in real time, and yes you can learn a few tricks, but that's it, there are other fantastic courses teaches you far more stuff, theories, or go watch random art tutorial youtuber's weekly free drawing stream, which would be better than this.

Learned a ton taking this course! The instructor is very knowledgeable and I appreciated that he showed everything in real-time. The sound quality can be kind of quiet but that can be fixed by downloading the lecture, loading it in VLC, and boosting the volume.

Good course, but I am getting a terrible sound quality here. At normal strength it is too soft, at audible strength it introduces a persistent hummmmmm.

If you already have some ability this course is definitely worth watching, following along, and creating similar pieces. I’ve found quite a few useful tricks here.
