About This Course

Learn How to Create an AAA Quality Prop Weapon using 3ds Max, Substance Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag

Instructor Info

Emiel Sleegers always had love for video games and when he was young, he started using Unity3D for programming but he found himself gravitating more towards the art of making games. Now he is currently working as an environment artist in Ubisoft. He contributed to creating AAA games such as Forza Horizon 3 and The Division 2. His all time favorite game is The Last of Us and that video game is what inspired him to want to work in the game industry. His advice for beginner artists is to focus on one aspect of gaming that they are passionate about, stick to it and get better at it. His hobbies include anything related to games or films, whether it be working on personal projects, freelance work or going out for movies.

The teacher makes many mistakes as he is modeling. He doesn't realize why he is making these mistakes. I understand making mistakes and fixing them is helpful to show what can go wrong but the problem is he doesn't know why these mistakes are happening or that he has even made a mistake until he needs to fix it. He does a poor job of teaching. I often just did things in a different way than he was because I felt the way he was modeling wasn't good and would lead to many mistakes.

Information is good. You can learn specific things. But most of the videos are timelapse because you always do the same things(Uv, retopo). If you are a beginner I will not recommend it. If you have experience and looking for workflow, this course will help you.

The instructor went into so much detail with every little thing, which was very helpful. Before this course I was struggling to figure out how to make props and guns. This course taught me a lot. I am very thankful.

Emiel Sleegers is a great teacher and shows you professional tips on how to achieve good results in difficult geometry and in general how to use 3ds max. I like that he is one of the only teachers that models weapons and actually shows you what reference he's looking at. This tutorial helped up my skin making game and enjoy the fact he makes mistakes and shows you how to solve them instead of rehearsing how to make a perfect model and kill your confidence in a split second.
