Great teacher. Keeps the information simplistic.
Mike is very enthusiastic and enjoys teaching. He is a good teacher. This course would be ideal for an absolute beginner. Although I have been making music for awhile and knew a fair bit of this I did learn things. My music theory knowledge is poor. I knew scales had certain notes but was unaware that they also used specific chords. I can't wait to try that out in my next production.
Mikael, I enjoyed you other free tutorials on compression so I signed up for this songwriting class. Sorry, I cannot give you a high rating because I don't believe that I learned anything substantial from this class. Perhaps it's a difference in language, but I expected "song writing" to be advice about how to write songs, and about song structure. Instead you spent all your time showing a rudimentary run through of how to build a four-track two-bar jingle in Garage Band.
Quite sad about giving you a low rating because you seem nice, and I did find you other tutorials useful.
For others hoping to find a class on songwriting that includes: song structure (verse /chorus/bridge), building a hook, chord progressions and scale selection, or advice on lyrical flow, I'm sorry it's not here. Probably my fault for not scrutinizing the curriculum hard enough.
It seems very geared towards people who use Macs and iPads. I use a PC and can't afford an iPad so the demonstration of Garageband wasn't really helpful. Option #2 was 'Reason Essentials' for the songwriting tools but it wasn't stated that it was a PC program. A little note on the slide would have helped make that clear. It's good but could be better.
I found the section on beats and drum tracks very useful.

I'm sorry Mike, you seem like a nice fellow, but I was really searching for some depth in this corse. The structure was nice and all, but the content was missing. I feel like I could have watched 2, 3 Youtube videos and gather the same ammount of knowledge. It's just really not what I signed up for.
