Maybe my expectations were more, since I am a music teacher. Basically it is a well structured material and obviously reflex the authors/presenter's expertise. But, here I would make an important note: this is not a course. This is, as I said a well structured and compact material presenting most parts of the popular music history. For me, and online course would include, most importantly 1) a questionnaire based on the material (after each or few videos based on the same topic); 2) a kind of final quiz at least.
What I also miss very much is the text generated from the video. I know that this might be more expensive, but for a non-native listener this would be definitely a big help. Also, I think the New-Wave and Post-Punk would have been deserve separate videos.
I appreciate, though very much the Spotify-list! But there I saw really the missing music - related to certain styles from the 80s and 90s - which I believe one of the most important decades...
But I was happy to see the inclusion of jazz at certain level, and also the more detailed information of different electronic music forms.
All in all, thank you for this good material!

It's early yet but, so far, there is nothing to disagree with. One question I think is worthy of consideration is why while there are prominent women in the roots of rock and roll, there appears to be close to none in the early history of rock and roll. Why?

As dance is included in the course title, I am a bit surprised that Northern Soul doesn't get a chapter of its own.

The course was very informative. I was frustrated at first by having to keep switching back and forth between the course and Spotify. It was easier to just load all their samples on Spotify on my phone so I could refer to them as I watched lectures on laptop. All in all it was good.

yes, it's cool learning about stuff that I barely had an idea about. And, like most books that speak about these things truly go over my head but this didn't so that was great.

Music is universal in my opinion. There's music in the UK, the USA, as well as in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Australia. I took this course to learn about the music (pop, heavy metal, rock, etc) I hear on the radio, for the most part. Knowing the broader historical context of each musical genre helps me to appreciate music more deeply.

I'm Filipino-American, meaning I was born in the USA, and both my parents were from the Philippines. I was apalled when I just recently learned of the debacle that The Beatles experienced while in the Philippines in the 1960s. I own the Red Album and The Blue Album, greatest hits albums by The Beatles. I have the deepest respect for The Beatles, and all of the UK, for that matter. Enough said.

A text lesson is very boring plus the part I was most interested in was taken almost word for word from the House music doc Pump Up The Volume at times not fully understanding what the documentary was saying. I could have got this from You Tube for free and had moving pictures to be far better produced lesson. Terrible.
