About This Course

Take the pain and stress out of your upcoming move abroad by using effective best practices for an easier transition.

Facing a major transition like an upcoming move overseas is both exciting and terrifying. Where do you even begin?

How can you be sure you are organized, prepared, and able to cope with leaving one part of the world (tying up all those loose ends) and setting up shop in another country without pain, stress, headaches, and causing an international incident?

In this easy-to-follow, fun, and practical course, I'll share with you my very best tips and tricks for getting from here to there in one piece with your sanity and sense of humor intact. In this first installment of How to Make a Successful Move Abroad: Easy Transition Guide we will focus exclusively on surviving before and during the actual move abroad.

After taking this course students will be able to:

  • Create an easy and clear plan of action to ensure all loose ends are tied up in the "old" country before the move.

  • Discover and lock down important resources and services in the "new" country well before moving day to ensure a smoother set up.

  • Focus valuable time, energy, and resources on the most essential to-do items for an easier and less-stressful transition.

  • Easily assist children and pets through the process of leaving one way of life for another.

  • Engage in essential self-care best practices for taking care of YOU in this time of extreme change.

  • Find and appreciate the benefits, hidden-blessings, and FUN aspects of moving abroad to help offset the stress of the inevitable challenges and obstacles.

Most video lessons include actual footage from my own recent transition abroad from Rome, Italy to Yangon, Myanmar to help illustrate the good, the bad, and the ugly when dealing with a major transition like an upcoming move.

I've lived, volunteered, and worked in the USA, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, India, Tanzania, Liberia, and Myanmar and in this quick and easy course, I take decades of travel and expat experience and share my top essential tips for making a smoother international transition with less headaches and more fun.

Since 2000 I've been teaching students all over the world using my tried and true custom approach (turning complex information into something simple, memorable, easy-to-understand in as short amount of time as possible) to ensure that you get the most important, relevant, and useful information that can be applied immediately.

I loved how personal the professor was, and really appreciated all the tips. She used her experience and knowledge in a good way, and it felt like I was learning from a friend.

I enjoyed the course....lots of great learning and tips. My only recommendation would be (in additional to have resources listed with each section/chapter) to provide a summary of all the resources in one central area - at the end of the course.

The videos are more like a vlog than being actual lessons and I enjoyed that. Helpful indeed, though I honestly did expect something like a webinar with Powerpoint presentation with narrations. Thank you Kristen. :)

I liked the personal touch, involving the kids, etc.

What was missing: examples of cultural differences, integrating with the expat and local community, etc.

A charming course, although not exactly what I expected.

Having done it several times, Kristen knows exactly what she is talking about (in her own words): The good, the bad, and the ugly of moving abroad.
Her personal experience which she shares throughout the whole course will boost your confidence. Kristen guides you through the three major stages of moving (before, during, and directly afterwards) and gives plenty of helpful advice on what to focus on, and when.
She adresses extra challenges like moving from one foreign country to another (Italy to Myanmar!) and as an entire family with your spouse, children, pet, and all the things you can’t leave behind, plus fighting bureaucracy and other unforseen obstacles, while managing to not go nuts during the whole process.
A very personal approach with a handy bullet list at the end (Yay! I love bullet lists! It’s the German genes...) and a truly comforting message throughout: You can do it!

Great course!
Kristen created a course around the topic I'm passionate about: Living and moving Abroad.
Kristen takes you through her entire move and literally, you feel you're there with her.
She involves her kids in the lectures and you really feel as if you're part of the family, while moving abroad. It couldn't feel more ''real'' than this.
I'm an expat too, and as culture trainer and speaker, this topic is what I most love sharing about: how to live abroad successfully. Actually, I just launched a book about it.

Kristen wrote a great book about working abroad, which is so important, and still too often people leave their home country without preparation or research.

Books, courses, research, all of it is so important before you decide to move abroad.
This course is definitely a MUST to include in your preparation!!!!

Thanks!
~Rachel~
