About This Course

Master modular design to create 2D game tilesets and game assets faster and cheaper from simple vector modules!

How to create your own game assets the most effective way?
How to design unique looking game art for the fragment of time and cost?

Is that even possible?
Yes it is!

By applying the principles of modular design and making your game asset creation faster, cheaper and much more efficient!

What is that?
Modular design is a method, where you build up your game assets from pre-designed moduls.

During this course you will learn:

  • the principles of modular designs in game art

  • to create a fleet of spaceships from simple geometrical forms

  • to create cartoon character heads good for any mobile game

  • to design a modular goblin army with fantasy weapons

  • to make a platform game tileset

  • to design a 2D tileset for a Zelda -like topdown game

  • and of course a lot of Inkscape tricks to make your work more efficient!

My name is István Szép, I am a graphic designer and design teacher for more than a decade. Join me in this course and learn to create fast, cheap and effective modular game assets in Inkscape! Inkscape is a free , easy to use vector design program, that will make you be able to create your own video game assets.

Attention! This course is about modular  game art design, not about programming! Sadly, you will not learn here to code procedural worlds or script random spaceships. But you can learn to design your assets for that!

  • You will be able to create your own 2D game tiles

  • You will understand and able to create real and effective modular design for video games

  • You will work much faster with Inkscape

I'm a graphic designer, illustrator and design teacher for more than 10 years.  I create clever logos and cute illustrations, I like to inspire, share my knowledge and  make people think and laugh!                I use Inkscape, an open  source graphic design program in most of my design, and I was teaching this to my students too in a college in...

Would have been better if spent just a few extra minute to explain the tool that was being used.

Great tutor, good fun and really accurate with art. A joy to learn from. I was utterly rubbish at computer art before doing this guy's courses, and now I am much improved, almost ready now to use my own art in my own games. I am very proud.

Some months ago I decided to make a 2D game. But I didn't know anything about making these tilesets and seamless tiles in a good and correct way. I searched for it for several weeks in internet and youtube but couldn't find any good tutorial. This course is exactly what I was looking for!
The content is good. However I forgot to read the Requirements of this course when I was buying it.
So you must already have a knowledge of Inkscape and without it you won't understand how the teacher did something.

Take more time to explain the Inkscape tools and shortcuts. I would of loved to see how the human like bodies were made.

I mostly watched this to learn how to create seamless tilesets in Inkscape. The tileset in the course is simpler than I would like, but the technique for making it seamless works and can be applied to more complex art, so I can't really complain.
