I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in getting started in creature design. The instructor clearly has expertise on the subject and the best of the course are the assignments that really helps you to slowly improve your understanding of the process of designing a creature. Though there are somepoint that I want to point out.

First of all, I highly recommend starting this course with a solid foundation of art basics. The instructor takes for granted that you already know them and that you are capable enough to follow the instructions of the assignments without much struggle. That being said, I would say this course is more for people with an intermediate level in art and above.

Secondly, the instructor sometimes has some issues explaining some points. If you already have a good experience in art you can easily fill the gaps the instructor left. But if you are new to drawing or your knowledge of art and fundamentals are lacking, is probable that might not understand some concepts or that you get stuck on most assignments because they may seem so difficult at first glance.

And finally, the course has some editing errors. Nothing that ruins your experience at all, but in 2 or 3 videos there are some black screens at the end of some videos or there are things that were clearly intended to be removed in the editing and were not. Is not a big of a deal because, at the end, the information and assigments that the course provide are really really good.

From my personal experience I can say that before this course I had never drawn animals or creatures, much less designed my own. I am halfway through the course and I am already amazed by the progress I have made by following the course. I really recommend it.

Very good instructor with a really good way of engaging students in the lessons. Will say it’s a requirement to do work outside of lessons… can’t just watch course content and become an expert through osmosis!

Austin's teaching on Creature Design is understandable and easy to learn.
He shows great knowledge of designing creatures through his drawings of animals, and creatures. Austin's understanding of animal and creature anatomy is amazing too!

My criticism is the timing of the videos for the two lectures.
Colors and Patterns Demo Part 3 need to be a bit longer for the lesson to finish, and Sentient VS Non-Sentient should stop at seven minutes and twenty-three seconds instead of twenty minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

I really enjoy how the prof. talks about how every creature is either a circle, triangle, or a square. I never noticed that. But it's definitely making my artwork much more detailed.

I was hoping for something more in-depth, and I wish the sound/recording quality were better. Some videos cut off unexpectedly; others have minutes of blackness and silence. The instructor is knowledgable and this is an OK intro for beginning artists, but this just doesn't feel like a polished, professional course.
