Great introductory course, with very practical examples and source files to help beginners navigate their way through and practice. Would have received that last star if the web/smartphone section of the course could have been rounded of by including one extra module covering the steps needed to export to web ready files for the developer.

Do the omelette instead of talking quite long about how to make an omelette. He describes too much what he is going to do instead of doing it and explaining at the same time.

I discovered Shawn B from his YouTube channel, when I was trying to design a logo for my company, and spent the next 5 hours glued to my computer as I watched his videos one after the other. If you haven't sampled Shawn's YouTube channel then your missing a dynamic, knowledgeable, personable, fun, and engaging design mentor. This class is no exception.

This class takes us through a world wind tour of graphic layout with the design of a poster, post card, and website where we are introduced to Shawn's grid.

Shawn provides a recommended directory structure that is useful as a project folder along with a good explanation on how to setup a design grid. Shawn used Adobe Illustrator throughout the class and shows how to setup the grid for each media format. Even though Shawn used AI, I was able to set it up, even though I use Gimp and Inkscape.

The class format is a quasi I'm not going to show you how to design, but were going to design format that progresses through each of the media types using the grid.

What you will learn in this class is how to setup the grid and some key dimensions that will assist you in targeting the web. What's missing in my opinion from the course is insights on using the grid to create columns, gutters, and selecting images. He does touch very briefly on aspect ratio's in the context of setting up the grid but there are no further insights on its usage or configuration.

The course is definitely worth the insights of how to setup a grid in a graphics program but it is missing text layout, images, and 3rds/5ths rules I learned from him. For me even without Shawn's insights into those other topics I still loved the course and learned a lot. If your new to graphics design, as I am, you will want to take this course, so please do!
