Yes I can follow well. Too well actually, so to me I had hoped for some more content on other GIMP possibilities that are useful to making book covers. There are still lots of options on actions used that are left unexplained. For instance layer locking, subtracting and intersecting paths, foreground select tool, the alignment tool, cage transform, the healing tool, the difference between the text tool options in the toolbox versus those above text, snapping, cropping possibilities, other filters....

Out of the box, GIMP is not very user friendly or intuitive. This course got me over than hump.

Great pace in going through every step of the way. Other instructors skip over steps - not taking into the mind of a beginner. NOT with this instructor! He would make an Awesome school teacher! Where was he when I was going to school. lol

Several hours it took to convey the basic functions could've been taught in 1/10th of the time. He's good at image editing, but the same can't be said of his video editing skills. Only about a fourth of the way in and I couldn't take anymore. I hit the speed-up option to end it.

I've tried to figure out the GIMP on my own several times over the years, using the documentation and/or YouTube videos. Occasionally, I'd gain a bit of insight but always became frustrated and moved on to something else. In this course, Brian Jackson goes step-by-step and explains what he's doing and why. For the first time, I feel that I am finally going to conquer the GIMP and I could not be more pleased. Thank you for this excellent course, Brian.
...Sincerely.

I am frustrated with this course. The instructor is way too familiar with the software to be teaching a Basic Course. He leaves out the fine details of what he is clicking on constantly! I have to replay every 2 minutes over and over to see what he clicked to achieve the step he is on. Normally as an instructor one might say - down here in the left corner is the add a new layer tool - click on it to add a new layer or - something similar but instead he is just clicking away and not telling you where or on what and it is taking me forever to get anywhere in this course because of the tedious replaying to see what he is doing.

I don't know if there is another course on Gimp that is better but I will be looking. This course is Free and I guess you get what you pay for.

This was a pretty good course. The instructor is engaging and quite responsive to comments and questions.
It comes with all of the pros and cons of a course that teaches you a tool with a specific purpose. In this case, Gimp to Create Book Covers. The Pros are that it is focused and practical. You get to see many real-world examples of the usage of Gimp. In particular, by the time you finish the course, the use of layers in your images become second nature.
The Cons of this approach, of course, is that many features of Gimp are not explored. I think the instructor does have a more generic Gimp course, so perhaps other features are covered there. But it gave me what I needed. I am actually not quite making book covers, but what I need falls in the basic feature set.
One more thing. The course is pretty short. The core is probably just a few hours, and the rest is a lot of practical examples.
