About This Course

Learn the Protractor-Cucumber-Framework by Following along and Creating a Demo Application

This course is intended to teach you how to use the Protractor-Cucumber Framework, with a few tips from a software engineer familiar with these tools. By the end of the course, a developer should be equipped with enough knowledge to start using these tools at their software shop or in their own projects. Far too often is Integration & End-to-End testing thrown out of a software process, but if it were just easier, then maybe it could find its place everywhere.

Technologies Used:

  • Node.js

  • Selenium (Webdriver-manager)

  • JavaScript

    • (Future Lectures) Typescript Support If Requested

  • Visual Studio Code

    • Extensions Listed Under Lecture 2

  • Protractor

  • Cucumber

    • Gherkin

  • Students will have created a working demo application for using this framework

  • A deep understanding of Cucumber

  • Students should be able to start testing websites using this framework

I am an experienced software engineer at a fortune 100 company, where I employ a variety of software skills. I have a passion for automating development as much as possible, and, as such, I have nose dived into automated testing frameworks. I have a bachelors in Computer Science, and love to teach.

Is all good. Would like to have gotten a bit more on Gherkin.

Seems like a very good match for me. The style is odd, unclear if I should follow along or just watch it. He starts showing one thing slowly then speeds up, then goes back and changes it then skips over some details like what he's doing in the inspector exactly. I've had to pause and backup about 50 times in 8 minutes of video, user experience of this is suboptimal. Most would have been more organized, told you at a high level what's going to happen, then run through it at a normal pace and told you to just watch and not try to type it, then at the end to pause here and type everything as currently shown on screen

It's just a demo class, no engagement of students. Students will not get detail enough to make it work,

I like this course because the teacher was energetic, didn't try to hide errors with bad edits but worked through them quickly and (mostly) professionally, which was also good learning. Also, in the end, everything works as expected. It would be nice if he would call specific attention to what he is editing when making changes to "past code". There were a few occasions where I had to go back and carefully re-watch because of some important edits, where all he says is something to the effect of "don't need that" or "move this here to there". Also, there were some definite sound level problems and drop outs which could use some attention though. One entire section is much quieter than the others and his voice cuts out entirely sometimes.
Overall, it is quite a good, concise, easy to listen to, information filled set of lessons.

Lots of talk on a simple example which is 2 fields. I have not learned anything from this course so far, the presenter never answers questions, never updates the content. Not recommended

Brent Turner walked me through building up a real world framework, then I can start to employ it to my next project. Thanks Brent!
